Theme:

The term Linked Data refers to a set of best practices for publishing and connecting structured data on the Web. In the last few years, these best practices have been applied by a number of data providers, thus significantly increasing the amount of Linked Data published, creating as consequence a new trend in the field of knowledge engineering. However, the applications that are employed to produce and consume Linked Data have been designed and developed in research environments.

The technologies related to Linked Data draw on standard and novel techniques from various disciplines within Computer Science, including Knowledge Engineering, Knowledge Representation, Natural Language Processing, Data integration, User Interfaces, etc. The applications developed and integrated for this purpose have a very large application potential in a large amount of fields such as Information Retrieval, Information Integration, Information Interoperability, Bioinformatics, eHealth, eLearning, Social Networking, etc.

There is a vast amount of Linked Data that has been generated during the last few years. However, in many cases these data is produced by universities and other research organizations far from industry needs and real world applications. There are many challenges uncovered for the adoption of Linked Data in corporate scenarios including technological aspects as well as social and legal implications.

The aim of this Focussed Topic Issue is to collect innovative and high-quality research contributions regarding Real World Applications that produce and consume Linked Data. This Focussed Topic Issue aims at exploring the recent advances in the application of Linked Data soliciting original scientific contributions in the form of theoretical and experimental research and case studies.

The topics of interest include, but are not limited to:
